Economic Impact of Tourism

  • Henrico County captured $879.6 million (+3.2%) in spending by domestic travelers during 2016, the most of any locality in central Virginia and the fifth highest in Virginia, according to a newly released study for the Virginia Tourism Corp.
  • “Tourism is a major driver of Henrico’s and our region’s economies,” County Manager John A. Vithoulkas said. “By staying in our hotels, eating in our restaurants and supporting other businesses, visitors contribute directly to our high quality of life. Their spending supports jobs and investment, and it helps to fund a variety of public services, including schools, parks and public safety.”
  • In 2016, Henrico’s parks and sports complexes hosted 135 tournaments which generated an estimated $46.1 million in local spending.
