Henricus Historical Park

Travel back in time to the Citie of Henricus, the second successful English settlement in the New World. Discover where 300 settlers, led by Sir Thomas Dale, departed the unhealthy environment of Jamestown and traveled 80 miles up the James River with the hope of establishing a strong English Colony and to become the principal seat of the Virginia Company of London. Advancing into unknown wilderness, these explorers were under the constant threat of attack by Indians and Spaniards who had the capability to destroy the young struggling colony.
Henricus re-creates this historical journey that took place four hundred years ago and highlights this significant time where property ownership by the common man was a unique concept as was the development of the first English hospital, the chartering of the first college in the New World, the English home of Pocahontas and the establishment of tobacco as the first cash crop in the New World.
