Economic Impact of Tourism

  • Henrico County captured $915.9 million (+4.1%) in spending by domestic travelers during 2017, the most of any locality in central Virginia and the fifth highest in Virginia, according to a newly-released study for the Virginia Tourism Corp.
  • “Tourism is a major driver of Henrico’s and our region’s economies,” County Manager John A. Vithoulkas said. “By staying in our hotels, eating in our restaurants and supporting other businesses, visitors contribute directly to our high quality of life. Their spending supports jobs and investment, and it helps to fund a variety of public services, including schools, parks and public safety.”
  • In 2018, Henrico’s hosted 170 tournaments which generated an estimated $53.4 million in local spending.
  • New athletic facilities such as Glover Park and other 2016 bond projects offer Henrico the opportunity to bring in more sports business. In 2018, $57.1M in economic impact was left on the table due to lack of facilities.

  • Hosted 21 youth baseball tournaments & 260 games over 36-day-span
  • Hosted 10 youth softball tournaments & 507 games over 50-day-span
  • Hosted 11 adult softball tournaments & 628 games over 84-day-span
